final reflection

 Course Reflection

I had learnt many things in this course (LSCC-N307) which is being taught by Mr. Gregory, I think this was good course a lot of information, a lot of deadlines. However the benefit was existed. We learnt how to make our CV and how to make it in a high good form, we also did a job interview and it was really a serious one it felt like you are being interviewed by real interviewers even though my mates and my teacher were in front of me. Holding meeting was one of the most important things in N307 because we prepared our self pretty good, we wrote our agenda, goals and minutes very well so we had to know every tiny bit of information Mr.Gergory had said in class our throw emails. The last two things in the course were submitting a project with 1500 words followed by a presentation about it, a group of three student including me were in charge to do it. Our project was about water desalination in Abu-Dhabi, we divided the work equally each student got to write 500 words, we have submitted our project within the deadline date thankfully. More over we learnt about the plagiarism and how it will give us a big zero if we used it even though if it was accidently. Overall, it was a wonderful course and wonderful teacher with a huge amount of experience that will stay in our heads and we well certainly going to use it in our college life or after graduating.

MY PART OF THE PROJECT

MY PART OF THE PROJECT

.        Distribution Network System:

·         Network:

The distribution network in Abu Dhabi made of more than 11,760 km of pipelines and the pipes are from 80 mm to 1200 mm diameter with 108 small to medium size tanks and 46 pump stations. The pipe work is mainly ductile iron, however lately high density polyethylene has been used instead of ductile iron.

·         Water Piping System:

There are three major components of a water piping system:

1. Primary feeders - water mains that are usually owned by a water company. Sizes -vary from 12” to 60” in diameter.

2. Secondary feeders - network of intermediate size pipes that interlace a grid system. Sizes - no smaller than 12” in diameter.

3. Distributors - pipes serve consumer blocks and feed individual hydrants. Sizes - should be no less than 8” and 12” on principle streets.

The water distribution network consists from

1-    Main pipe line -------  material DI

2-    Sector pipe line-------------------DI&HDPE

3-    Service pipe line -----------------material  Polyethylene  pipe ( MDPE & LDPE) means (low density & medium density polythene pipe)

4-    Boosting pump station to increase the pressure in the water system.

There are more than 150 interface points available between Transco and ADDC through these points water is entering into the distribution system. ADDC is having only operational storage reservoirs in its system. Hence water is not residing in distribution system for a long time. In most of the distribution systems water is being delivered to the customers premise within hours after entering into the system. It is assessed that nowhere in the distribution system, water is residing more than 24 hours.

Conclusion:

Cities with dense populations lack adequate fresh water because municipalities which should be supplying them are failing due to rising population and bad forecasting of population. I think ADDC is one of the best water distribution companies in the world. Because it can forecast the population growth and supply water for consumptions perfectly. People in Abu Dhabi should be grateful to the government because we get the cleanest water comparing to other countries.

Meeting Reflection

307-Meeting

On Thursday 6th of November 2012 at 6:30 P.M., I and a group of 2 gentlemen’s had a meeting. This meeting started exactly at the time, all of the participants was present at the time of the meeting. The meeting issue was about Student Success – increasing core skills and how we can reach that with the help of our older graduated students. In the following I’m going to indicate what had happened in the meeting.

For starters, the meeting discussed what is the topic and what are the main goals of the meeting. Next, the meeting started by our chairman Khaled Mohamed who was the first to speak he introduced the main problems with the current student at HCT and what are their weaknesses points and how we can overcome them. In addition, Waleed added another good point which is making a survey. Furthermore, all of us gave information and solutions about the issue, but the chairman had the whole control of the meeting and he is the one who can decide which solution is good to apply. At the meeting I was the minute taker, my job was to listen to observe the good points (write them down) and to give my opinion.

Finally, we decide to do a survey about what the older graduated students needed when they went to the field and present our solution to the HCT administration to find out the point of view and the decision.

All in all, the meeting was great idea to discuss a real subject at our college, it was a good assessment that I will never forget it because I got an experience for leading, discussing, and giving.
